Describe the Emergency Towing Arrangements required on tankers?
Emergency Towing Arrangements for Tankers
Tankers over 20,000 dwt must be fitted with emergency towing equipment to assist towing and salvage in the event of a pollution incident.
Forward towing arrangements should be capable of being launched in not less than one hour.
Aft towing arrangements should be capable of being deployed in not less than fifteen minutes, by one person, even if the ship has lost all power.
Deployment – Take the pilot line with the attached, pass it through the centre fair lead, throw it as far as possible and pay out the remaining messenger line. Stand clear, and as the assisting vessel heaves on the messenger line it will automatically start pulling the towing line from the storage reel against the tension of the brake.

What are the dangers of Chemicals or Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)?
Chemicals, dangerous cargoes and paints may cause both a risk to the crew members working with them, but also spillages can pose considerable slip, fire and safety hazards. It is therefore required that all COSHH onboard have a MSDS which details the properties of the substance, precautions to take when handling, as well as advice on how to deal with, spillages, fires or medical accidents. It is good housekeeping practice to keep separate stowage and adequate securing of these goods. Crew members should also be trained, instructed and informed so they know the dangers arising from their work.
