Topical retinoid
acne
A brief sensation of warmth or stinging may occur right after applying the medication. Skin redness, dryness, itching, scaling, mild burning, or worsening of acne may occur during the first 2-4 weeks of using the medication. These effects usually decrease with continued use. If any of these effects lasts or gets worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
General counseling tips for acne medication:
- may cause skin to have increased sensitivity to light. Use sunscreen if needed.
- apply small amounts to a few spots at first to make sure you’re not allergic
- wash hands before and after use
- do not apply to damaged skin
- avoid contact with eyes and lips
