How to respond to a client asking sexual questions about themselves?
A
Respond non-judgmentally
Not expected for you to have answers, but make it clear that issues will be addressed
◦ Use Reflective Listening
◦ Use Normalizing (egs. may acknowledge that others have similar concerns)
◦ Use a Neutral voice.
◦ Comments are very Generalized.

Changes after a SCI
A
- Usually no genital sensation
- Often has the ability to have reflex erections
- Disruption in ability to ejaculate
- Maintaining an erection may require a device like a constrictor band, medication, or penile implant

Factors that effect:
A
- Fatigue
- Limited ROM
- Spasticity
- Limited independent mobility
- Dysreflexia
- Bowel and bladder management
All of these factors often mean more planning, less spontaneity.

* Few people will be at the top (Intensive therapy providers)
