Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA)
Prohibits discrimination of individuals with disabilities and sets standards of employment and access.
-reasonable accommodations for work and school
Combating Autism Act and Autism Cares Act
The FIRST diagnoses specific act. Partnership between NIH and CDC to promote better health, education and resources for children with autism
Affordable Health Care Act
Can’t be denied due to pre-existing conditions, mandatory coverage for birth control and children can stay on their parents insurance until 26 years old.
Revision of ACA (Trump)
Allows states to opt out of medicare expansion (ks and mo opted out).
- Can now increase HSA and flex spending without being taxed.
- Can repeal funding to planned parenthood or early interventions (state by state)
- Now requires proof be shown for elderly, pregnant or disabled people to have Medicaid.
Medicaid
Governmental assistance program for: children, pregnant women, elderly, individuals with disabilities, or families who fall below national poverty level based on poverty level.
-state controls optional eligibility, although federal level mandates necessary coverage
Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
Bridge program to cover children if family makes too much for medicaid
-covers: routine checkups, immunizations, doctor visits, prescriptions, dental and vision care, emergency services, labs and x-rays
JCAHO
Joint Commission for Accreditation for Health Care Organization: accrediting agency for hospitals
CARF
Commission for the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities: accrediting agency for rehab facilities
OSHA
Occupational Safety and Health Administration: federal entity that is responsible for setting safety and environmental regulations
