Does the severity of OI differ from case to case?
YES.
OI has 4 different types, all differing in severity.
What are some s/s of osteogensis imperfecta?
-fractures, obviously
-bone deformity
-bone fragility
-HEARING LOSS- due to there being bones in your ears that help with sound and vibration !!
-dental deformities (dentinogenesis imperfecta)
-blue sclera is also possible due to the simultaneous thinning of collagen in the eye with OI
What type of drug is usually prescribed to a patient with OI and why?
Bisphosphonates are likely to be prescribed to OI patients because biphosphonates work to slow the thinning of bones.
