Osmosis Practical & revision Flashcards
1)
Firstly get a cork borer and take a sample of the potato with all the same diameter (three samples)
2)
Cut the end of the potato is impermeable.(skin)
3)
Measure the potato into 3 cm length (cut if long)
4)
Measure them again accurately recorded on your result table
5)
Weigh The potatoes and record on your result table
6)
Put the chip into the boiling tube
7)
Get down eye level with the measuring cylinder and put 10 mL of distilled water and put it in the tube with the chip.
8)
Label what is inside the tube and put a bund to the tube to prevent evaporation out of the tube
9)
Then for the remaining two tubes add 0.25 mL of sucrose for 1 tube and the other put 0.5ml of sucrose and leave for 24 hrs
10)
Get the distilled water tube then pour out the potato chip (use a sieve) and remove the exes liquid (paper towel).
11)
Measure the potato chips and weigh it again I’m recording results Taiwan do the same for the tubes
12)
Then calculate the difference of mass from the length before and after. (Take lent you got today and minus the enitial length)
Diffusion
Diffusion is the net passive movement of particles (atoms, ions or molecules) from a region in which they are in higher concentration to regions of lower concentration.
Osmosis
Where only water moves across a partially permeable membrane from a dilute solution to a concentrated solution.
Prokaryotes
Prokaryotes are tiny and they sometimes have a cell wall but not made of cellulose also DNA is “free “in the cytoplasm not in the nucleus
