Osmosis Flashcards
1
Q
What is osmosis?
A
The movement of water particles across a partially permeable membrane from a region of high concentration to an area of lower water concentration.
2
Q
What is a partially permeable membrane?
A
A membrane with very small holes in it so only tiny molecules can pass through it eg. water.
3
Q
What ways do the water molecules pass through?
A
Both ways as the molecules move around randomly.
4
Q
What is the net movement of water molecules?
A
There is a steady net flow of water into the region with fewer water molecules (into the stronger solution)
5
Q
What happens to the stronger solution?
A
it gets more dilute as it is trying to even out the solution
