Cells Flashcards
What is a prokaryotes cell?
A prokaryotic cell, a single celled organism.
What is a eukaryotes cell?
A eukaryotic cell, they are complex and include animal and plant cells.
What is the difference between prokaryotes and eukaryotes cells?
Prokaryotic cells are smaller and simpler. Eukaryotic cells are more complex and bigger.
What does the nucleus do?
The nucleus contains genetic information and controls the activity of a cell.
In a cell where do most of the chemical reactions take place?
The cytoplasm is where most of the chemical reactions take place.
What is the function of the cell membrane?
The function of the cell membrane is to hold the cell together and controls what goes in and out of the cell.
What happens at the mitochondria?
The Mitochondria is where most of the reactions for aerobic respiration take place. Respiration transfers energy to the cell so it can work properly.
Where are the proteins made in the cell?
The proteins are made in the ribosomes.
What do plant cells contain that animal cells don’t?
Plant cells contain a cell wall, vacuole and chloroplasts.
What is a cell wall made of and its purpose?
The cell wall is made of cellulose, it supports the cell and strengthens it.
Which part of the cell contains cell sap and what is it made of?
The vacuole contains cell sap and it is a weak solution of sugars and salts.
What is the purpose of chloroplasts?
In the chloroplasts photosynthesis occurs to make food for the plant. it contains a green substance called chlorophyll which absorbs light for photosynthesis.
What does a bacteria cell not have?
A bacteria cell doesn’t contain chloroplasts or mitochondria.
Where is the DNA in a bacteria cell?
DNA in a bacteria cell is a single circular strand of DNA that floats on the cytoplasm. They may also contain rings on DNA called plasmids.
