Orthotic Prescription Terminology
- As sits
- Balance
- Intrinsic posting
- Extrinsic posting
- Flat posts
What does “As sits” mean
however your cast is sitting on the table that is how you will build your orthosis
what does “post to cast” mean
post only FF deformity which means post to perpendicular
what is “intrinsic posting”
a “twist” in the shell to put the forefoot in a desired position relative to the RF and to put the calcaneus in the desired position relative to the floor
what happens to the device after RF extrinsic posting is complete?
the result will be that the FF will not be “balanced” to the RF and the device will rock in the shoe [could be a good thing or a bad thing!]
what is a flat post
- a RF post that does not provide for any frontal plane correction
- it will limit the amount of FP rocking of the device in the shoe
at minimum, an orthotic prescription should include
- type of orthosis
- cast technique
- shell material
- posting (for functional orthoses)
- Modifications (if necessary)
orthotic prescription is determined by
what factors do you need to know about your patient?
