Orthopedic Considerations Of The Shoulder Flashcards
Rotator cuff muscles (SITS): S
Supraspinatus
Rotator cuff muscles (SITS): I
Infraspinatus
Rotator cuff muscles (SITS): T
Teres minor
Rotator cuff muscles (SITS): s
Subscapularis
Tendonitis
Repetitive strain leads to micro tears of tendon
Marked by acute inflammation
Bursitis
Inflammation of bursa
Bursitis/Tendonitis
Often called “Impingement” in the absence of an apparent rotator cuff tear
ROTATOR CUFF TENDONITIS AND
IMPINGEMENT
Pain after activity and @ night
Catching sensation in shoulder with overhead activity
Adhesive capsulitis
“Frozen shoulder”
CLC synovium becomes inflamed and soft tissue becomes thick w/ fibrous adhesions
Adhesive capsulitis stage 1
Painful stage
Pain at end-range of shoulder motion
Lose ROM
2wks- 9mths
Adhesive capsulitis stage 2
“Freezing stage”
More ROM loss
Dull achy pain cont. and becomes worse w/ AROM
4-12 mths
Adhesive capsulitis stage 3
Thawing stage
Pt. regain lost ROM
Less pain with movement
May last 6-9 mths
Proximal humerus fracture
most common fracture of shoulder complex
Most result of FOOSH
Brachial plexus injury
Innervates muscles of UE
Causes: traumatic events and non traumatic events
Brachial plexus injury/ ERB’S palsy
Char. By paralysis of arm by affecting nerve roots C5, C6, C7
