A
- literally means ‘looking into’
- done under strictly controlled conditions and used standardised equipment
- process of observing and examining your own conscious thoughts or emotions
- used a ticking metronome to get people to write down their conscious emotions

- always be a delay between conscious thoughts and writing them down
- produces objective data (varied from person to person) so general principles could not be obtained
