What are the student’s responsibility in the extraction clinic?
- Greet patient, confirm 3C’s
- Confirm 3C code on Titanium
- Ensure patient is aware of proposed treatment
- Medical history (including checking MIMs if necessary)
- Obtain consent
- Clinical exam + marking of tooth/teeth
- Documentation of treatment + discussion with tutor before commencing
- Requeste LA (amout/type) –>use mirror retraction only, administer, dispose of needle
- Remove gloves, Titanium entry while waiting for LA
- Put gloves back on, check for anaesthesia
- Post op extraction instructions
- Disposal of soiled gauze and carpules into adhesive bag

- Clinic for non-emergencies
- Operator: registrar/house dentist
- Two DA’s (one scrub, one scout)
- Students assist in scrub procedure and assist surgical operator
What should be done prior to elective surgery?
- Confirm patient details against Titanium
- Re-discuss planned procedure with patient
- Obtain WRITTEN consent, inform of risks and complications
- Administer LA
- Procedure
- All sharps to be removed by operator or communicated to DA for them to remove
- Post-op instructions and prescriptions
