Module 2_Palatal Flap Flashcards
1
Q
T/F you will lose sensation in the palate if you cut through the nasopalatine nerve
A
F
Nasopalatine structure are largely residual
2
Q
What are the possible flap designs for working on the palate?
A
Simple incision
- Only works if structure you want to reach is superfical
- If you create an oral-antral fistula you won’t be able to repair it
Full palatal
- Safest flap
- Incise around the gingiva from molar to molar and lift up entire palate
Full palatal but with a semicircular cut anteriorly
-Leaves the nasopalatine canal in place
3
Q
Where are the greater palatine vessels located?
A
-Halfway between midline and alveolar ridge
4
Q
Why are trapdoor designs inappropriate?
A
-Risk of cutting through the greater palatine vessels and thus depriving flap of blood supply
