Q

Thoracic Cavity (chest cavity) (ventral body cavity)

A
  • can be divided into pleural cavities that contain the lungs
  • the walls of the pleural cavity are lined by the parietal viscera
  • lungs are covered by another membrane called the visceral pleura
  • serous fluid serves to separate the parietal and visceral pleura
  • the mediastinum is consist of the following: heart, trachea, thymus gland, esophagus, brachii, and the vessels
  • the pericardial cavity is another potential cavity that contains the heart
  • the visceral pericardium cover the heart and the parietal pericardium is associated with the walls
