Organizations of the Human Body Flashcards
1
Q
Axial portion
A
consists of the head, neck, and trunk
2
Q
Appendicular portion
A
consist of the arms and legs
3
Q
Dorsal Body Cavity
A
- near the posterior portion of the body
- cranial cavity
- vertebral cavity
4
Q
Cranial Cavity (dorsal body cavity)
A
formed by the cranial bones containing the brain
5
Q
Vertebral Cavity (dorsal body cavity)
A
formed from the vertebrae containing the spinal cord, etc…
6
Q
Ventral Body Cavity
A
- near the anterior portion of the body
- its walls are composed of skin, connective tissue, bone, muscle, and the serous membranes
- the organs within this cavity are called viscera
- the 2 major portions of this cavity are separated by a muscular diaphragm
- thoracic cavity
- abdominopelvic cavity
7
Q
Thoracic Cavity (chest cavity) (ventral body cavity)
A
- can be divided into pleural cavities that contain the lungs
- the walls of the pleural cavity are lined by the parietal viscera
- lungs are covered by another membrane called the visceral pleura
- serous fluid serves to separate the parietal and visceral pleura
- the mediastinum is consist of the following: heart, trachea, thymus gland, esophagus, brachii, and the vessels
- the pericardial cavity is another potential cavity that contains the heart
- the visceral pericardium cover the heart and the parietal pericardium is associated with the walls
8
Q
Abdomionpelvic Cavity
A
- it can be divided 2 portions or 4 quadrants, or 9 portions
- abdominal cavity
- pelvic cavity
- a vertical and horizontal line passing through the umbilicus serves to the divide the quadrants
- the quadrants include the right upper quadrant, right lower quadrant, left upper quadrant, and the left lower quadrant
9
Q
Abdominal Cavity (abdominopelvic cavity)
A
- consists of the stomach, spleen, liver, gall bladder, pancreas, small intestines, and most of the large intestine
- the parietal peritoneum lines the wall, and the visceral peritoneum covers each organ
- the potential space is referred to as the peritoneal cavity
10
Q
Pelvic Cavity
A
- the portion of the abdominopelvic cavity basically enclosed by the pelvic bones
- contains portions of the large intestines, urinary bladder, and internal reproductive organs
