Scientific management theory or theory x
Finding the one best way to perform each task, carefully matching each worker to each task, closely supervising workers, using reward and punishment as motivators, and managing and controlling behavior
Weber’s bureaucratic theory
Hierarchal structure of power to ensure stability and uniformity. It is a network of human interactions where all behavior could be understood by looking at cause-and-effect.
Administrative theory
Establishes a universal set of management fables that could be applied to all organizations
Human relations theory or theory y
A reaction to the tough authoritarian structure of classical theory. Displays genuine concern for human needs in order to produce creativity. Emphasizes the importance of cookies of work, groups, participatory leadership, and open communication.
Systems approach
Considers the organization as a system, composed of a set of interrelated and mutually dependent sub systems. Consists of components, linking processes and goals.
Sociotechnical approach
Consumers the organization is composed of a social system, technical system and its environment. Interact with each other, so it is necessary to balance them appropriately for effective functioning of the organization.
Contingency or situational approach
Recognizes that organizational systems are interrelated with their environment, and that different environments required different organizational systems for effectiveness
