Organelles Flashcards
Mitochondria
Membrane-bound cell organelle that breaks down chemical energy into usable energy for the body called ATP
Nucleus
A membrane-bound organelle that contains the cell’s chromosomes and DNA
Ribosome
Organelle made of RNA and protein that serves as the site for protein production in the cell
Cell membrane
Is found in all cells and separates the interior of the cell from the outside environment
Solvent
a substance that dissolves a solute, forming a solution (ex. water in a solution of salt water. Water has something added into it)
Solute
substance that is dissolved in a solvent to form a solution (ex. salt in a salt water solution. It’s added into the water)
Why are carbohydrates connected to the mitochondria
Mitochondria breaks down carbohydrates in the form of glucose to create ATP
What biomolecule are cell membranes related to and why
Lipids because lipids make up the cell membrane
What organelles are connected to proteins
Ribosomes, lysomes, cytoskeleton
What organelle is associated with nucleic acids and why
Nucleus is where DNA is organized
