Organelles Flashcards
Function of the Nucleolus?
Makes RNA, which forms Ribosomes.
Function of the Cytoplasm?
The inner fluid portion of the cell is the Cytoplasm.
Where water, dissolved materials, and small organelles are found.
Function of the Rough Endoplasmic reticulum? (RER)
Produces proteins for transport and secretes them from the cell, and makes lipids (including phospholipids and steroids).
Function of the Smooth Endoplasmic reticulum? (SER)
Produces lipid compounds and detoxifies materials.
Function of the (Golgi)c complex?
Receives material from the Endoplasmic reticulum and “packs” organelle.
Function of the Nucleus?
House genetic information of the cell.
& Direct cellular functions.
Both carried out by DNA.
Function of the Vesicles? (Plural)
Digest sub-cellular substances, transport substances out of the cell, and carry on enzyme activity.
Function of the Lysosomes?
Digestive enzymes that consume foreign particles. They also terminate damaged or old organelles.
Function of the Peroxisomes?
Peroxidase enzyme converts hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen.
What is the Cytosol?
The fluid in which organelles are suspended.
Function of the Cytoskeleton?
Small filaments and tubules make up it.
A structure that helps maintain a cell’s shape and internal organization.
Function of the Mitochondria?
Converts stored energy in food molecules to chemical energy of adenosine triphosphate (ATP).
“Power house of the cell.”
Function of Ribosomes?
They produce protein.
And are the “reading machines” found in cytosol.
