Protects the body from disease. Circulates fluid called lymph. Absorbs and transports fats.
What is the primary function of the digestive system
Ingestion, digestion, absorption of nutrients, and elimination of waste
What is the basic function of the endocrine system
It controls growth, development, and metabolism
What is asthma
A chronic lung disease that inflames and narrows the airways. It causes recurring periods of wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and coughing
What is heartburn
It is caused by acid reflux when stomach acid splashes from the stomach into the esophagus. Symptoms include a burning feeling in the chest just behind the breastbone.
What is lactose intolerance
The inability to fully digest the sugars in milk. It results in diarrhea, gas, and bloating after eating or drinking dairy products
What is diabetes
When the body either cannot produce insulin or cannot properly use the insulin it produces. This can lead to high blood sugar levels, which can damage organs, blood vessels, and nerves.
