Organ Systems Flashcards
Digestive system
-physical and chemical breakdown of food into molecular form that can be absorbed into the blood system
-chemical = enzymes (in saliva, small intestines, pancreas make enzymes and sends them into small intestines.
Cardiovascular system
-deliver blood to parts of the body; blood carries oxygen (energy) and nutrients. It also rids the body of carbon dioxide and wastes
Nervous System
carries messages to parts of the body using electrical and chemical signals; controls all body activity. Interprets the environment - senses
Integumentary System
Protection against UV light, infection, chemicals, and bacteria. Regulates body temperature
Lymphatic System
Immunity = fights disease. Lymph is the fluid that transports white blood cells and immunoglobins; it mixes with the blood and may also be carried by lymphatic vessels.
Muscular System
allows movement - contrast and extend. maintains posture 3 types
Endocrine System
The glands of the body; regulate. produces hormones which are the compounds that do this
Respiratory System
exchange of gases; oxygen in an carbon dioxide out
Skeletal System
supports the body, points of attachment for muscles, protection of organs. hematopoiesis: formation of blood
Excretory System
Filters your blood, removes nitrogenous waste
Reproductive System organs
a) female: ovaries, ova(eggs), Fallopian tubes (oviducts), uterus (muscles), cervix, vagina
b) Male: testes, epididymis, vas deferns, prostate gland, urethra, penis
Organs of digestive system
Teeth, tongue, esophagus, Stomach, Liver, small intestines, large intestines, rectum
Organs of Cardiovascular System
Heart, arteries (carries blood away from heart), veins (to the heart), capillaries (small vessels that connect arteries to veins)
Organs of Nervous system
Brain, nerves, spinal cord
Organs of Integumentary System
Skin, hair, nails, sudoriferous glands (sweat), sebaceous glands (oil)
