Sterile procedure (contain growth medium and anticoagulant)
Light Blue Tubes (2)
Coagulation studies (contain anticoagulant sodium citrate)
Red/Tiger Tubes (3)
Serum studies (with or without clot activator or gel serum separator)
Green Tubes (4)
Collect blood for plasma determination, such as chemistry tests, hematology tests and virology tests (contain heparin)
Lavender Tubes (5)
Hematology tests, like complete blood count and blood typing (contain EDTA)
Pink Tubes (6)
Used for blood type screening, crossmatching, antibody identification, and HIV viral load tests (contain EDTA)
Gray Tubes (7)
Glucose and lactate testing (contains potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride)
Yellow Tubes (8)
Blood banking, biochemistry, immunology, and blood cultures (contains acid citrate dextrose [ACD], sodium polyanethol sulfonate [SPS], silica and separation gel)
Royal Blue Tubes (9)
Trace metal serum determinations (no additive). Order of Draw determined by Standard Operating Procedures at place of work, so it may not be last.
