A

cellulitis above orbital septum
causes by s, aureus, s. pyogens (GABHS)

symptoms of inflammation PLUS
no vision loss, painful eye movement, limited eye mobility, proptosis

high WBC and CRP
tx with antibiotics

A

inflammation beyond orbital septum

caused by GABHS (S. pyogens)
spread from other areas of inflammation like rhinosinusitis/ dental infections/ pre-septal cellulitis

symptoms of orbit cellulitis?

A

inflammation: swelling, red, heat
painful eye movements
limited eye movements
decreased vision
proptosis

can become systemic: fever, chills, toxic-looking

management of orbit cellulitis?

A

admit pt
check WBC and CRP
consider imaging: CT/MRI head
give broad spectrum ABs (3rd generation)
vancomycin

if no improvement or there’s abscess: surgical drainage
