How is Aggregatibacter a. diagnosed?
Gram (-) coccobacillus
Growth on chocolate agar, blood agar
How can the anaerobes:
Bacteroides, Fusobacterium, Porphyromonas, Prevotella be differentiated?
(Gram (-) anaerobic rods)
Bacteroides: grows quickly on laked blood agar.
Prevotella: takes a week to grow on laked blood agar, saccharolytic, fluoresces dark red then brown
Porphyromonas: asaccharolytic, grows gray then turns black.
Fusobacterium: filamentous shape on gram stain.
