What is the treatment for a melting ulcer?
In-hospital treatment.
Sub-palpebral lavage system
Frequent bactericidal antibiotics (q 1-2hours)
Atropine as required (q 4-6 hrs)
Anticollagenases (EDTA, autologous serum)
Close monitoring
Surgical options
- debridement of melting ulcers and stromal abscesses
- grafting (several techniques)
- temporary tarsorraphies
- enucleation
What is the function of the choroid in the eye?
The choroid supplies the outer retina with nutrients, and maintains the temperature and volume of the eye.
What is the function of the two functions of the ciliary body?
- Produces aqueous fluid which maintains the shape of the eye.
- Contains the ciliary muscle which changes the shape of the lens when your eyes focus on a near object.
