Martin Niemöller wrote famous poem against Nazism, formed separate church (the confessional church) but sent to concentration camp
Pope protest (With Burning Concern) read in every catholic church
Church led successful campaign to maintain use of Crucifix

Why couldn’t the Nazis deal with the resistance they suffered from the Catholic church

A

The power of church and religion on Germans at the time was still big. People choose faith over government
Religion was embedded in generations while Nazism was new
The church had the power to overthrow Hitler (global faith)

Hans and Sophie scholl in charge, they were charged with high treason and beheaded, abolishing movement
