Opiates Flashcards
Term used for entire family of opiates including synthetic and semi-synthetic
Opioid
An opioids is any agent that binds to opioid receptor found in
Central nervous system
Gastrointestinal track
Morphine
Schedule I
Schedule II
Analgesic
What are the two opioid receptors
Meu receptor –> respiratory depression, hypothermia, euphoria
K (kappa) receptor –> spinal analgesia, sedation
Gamma receptor (binding sites for most endogenous proteins) –> spinal analgesia, hallucinations
Opiod’s are classified into three groups
Full agonist
Full antagonist
Mixed agonist
Morphine derivatives
Codeine –> weak meu
Fentanyl –> strong meu
Heroin –> strong meu
Hydrocodone –> meu
Goodness of fit
Degree of complement between receptor binding site and drug determines extent of analgesia and duration
Color Test: Opiods
