Operative seminar Flashcards
do you use retention grooves or sharply defined retention forms?
NO
Do you place proximal flares for ceramic systems?
NO
what are the disadvantages of ceramics?
potential to cause abrasive wear on opposing tooth structure
- repair difficulties
- multiple appointments.
What is the clinical divergence requirement for inlays and inlays?
6 degrees OR MORE
What is the isthmus requirement?
at least 1.5 mm!
how thick does your onlay/inlay need to be?
at least 1.5 mm
what are the indications for a ceramic inlay?
patient with LOW caries rate,
Needs a class II restoration.
Wants the ORIGINAL appearance of tooth.
MOST conservative approach obviously
if you have sub gingival margins, can you do an inlay?
no…relative contraindication. You want to have supgragingival margins!
Do you need to use a temporary cement for an onlAy?
NO
what are the 4 types of ceramic styles?
- traditional feldspatheic-
- leucite based ceramics
- Lithium Discilicate
- Slip cast
what are 3 milled ceramics??
feldspar, leucite, lithium disilicate
NAMES:
FELT (delicate like FELT)
Leucy
and LIT DIS
Leucy LIT DIS Felt and milled it!
Do you cement or bond an inlay or onlay?
this depends entirely on the choice of material!
If you had the choice to cement or bond…what’s the better choice?
bond
Cementing may be easier, but bonding is better
Describe the process for feldspathic?
you resin bond to the tooth and the ceramic.
Etch the porcelain first with hydrofluoric acid
THEN use silane, then bond!
Silane brings porcelain to composite I thinK?
What is the process for lithium Discilicate?
EITHER!
Max swings both ways
another name for lithium disilicate?
EMAX
max Lit Dis on FIYAH!
Can you sand blast Lithium dislocate?
NO, it will fracture
Describe the process of bonding or cementing lithium discilcate?
you can chose to bond or cement,
Etch with Hydrofluoric acid
Use Silane
(DO NOT SANDBLAST!!!)
What’s another name for leucite reinforced?
EMPRESS! because luecy will empress you
do you bond or cement leucite?
BONDING!!!!
Describe the process for zirconia?
use resin bonded cements
MAY SANDBLAST THE INTAGLIO
No phosphoric acid to “CLEAN”
Neither Slanting of Hydrofluoric acid are compatible with zirconia
what is unique about using zirconia???
ZIRCONIA sounds like an alien word- so just remember that this is the unique one.
YOU CAN sandblast the alien
DON”T USE Phosphoric, silinating, or hydrofluoric acid! The aliens don’t like acid, they like sandblasting.
AND YOU WANT TO BOND THIS!!!
what is the purpose of polishing ceramics?
used to prevent ceramic fracture?
how do you perform occlusal adjustments on ceramics?
fine diamond bur on slow speed with water coolant.
THEN polish this with silicone point polishers
if we chose to cement, what product do we use?
Rely X and GC fuji plus
resin reinforced glass ionomer cement adheres to the tooth
What are the steps in bonding?
isolate field
remove the temp and clean with CHLOROHEXIDINE
REMOVE black stains with hydrogen peroxide
what do we use to BOND at the school?
nexus 3
why do you clean the intaglio of inlay or only with phosphoric acid?
acts as a detergent and removes salts caused from treating the intaglio surface with hydrofluoric acid
Procedure for bonding?
- phosphoric acid 15 seconds
- silane- and allow to air dry 3 mins
- read instructions to see how to place the bonding
what is the purpose of silane?
increases the “WETTABILITY” of the resin bonding material
-works chemically with the resin matrix and the hydroxylated porcelain surface to improve bonding
TWO types available- hydroxyl silane and un hydroxlined= 2 bottle.
