Endo Philosophy Flashcards
T/F
apical foramen and radiographic apex = same thing?
FALSE! the apical foramen is short from the true tooth apex by .6 mm approximately. Canals almost ALWAYS stop short of the radiographic apex.
How do you go from working length, to final working length?
place the file based on “estimated working length” and take a radiograph. Then you figure out what distance you need to go to get the FINAL working length.
what is the purpose of pulpotmey?
remove just the carious pulp
T/F
implant survival exceeds endo treated teeth?
false
what should your decision for endo vs. extraction be based on?
preservation of tooth!
Describe the cold test procedure?
use endo ice on a #2 cotton pellet that is well saturated for 15 seconds on Natural tooth or ANY type of crown
So you saturate with endo ice and hold for 15 seconds if they are not responding. We are looking at how long their response is when the stimulus is removed.
T/F
you cannot use endo ice on a crown?
FALSE! you can! any type
how do you electric pulp test?
start at 2 and slowly increase to less than 4.
NO “on” button on machine- it will start when you begin to use it.
put a little toothpaste or conductor on the tip and this will complete the circuit.
if you have a negative response to both cold and the EPT, what does that mean?
pulp necrosis
If you have no response to cold, what should you do?
EPT
is the tip of the “z” bur cutting or non cutting?
non! use this when the chaber is exercise and extending from
what is the purpose of the spoon activator?
remove pulp stones and debride
what are the files made of?
nickel titanium!!!!
describe properties of the files?
superelasticity + Shape and memory
3 advantages of the orrifice shaper?
- more accurate EFL readings
- enhanced tactile detection of the apical constriction
- decreased risk of file separation
