Endo Philosophy Flashcards

1
Q

T/F

apical foramen and radiographic apex = same thing?

A

FALSE! the apical foramen is short from the true tooth apex by .6 mm approximately. Canals almost ALWAYS stop short of the radiographic apex.

Q

How do you go from working length, to final working length?

A

place the file based on “estimated working length” and take a radiograph. Then you figure out what distance you need to go to get the FINAL working length.

Q

Describe the cold test procedure?

A

use endo ice on a #2 cotton pellet that is well saturated for 15 seconds on Natural tooth or ANY type of crown

So you saturate with endo ice and hold for 15 seconds if they are not responding. We are looking at how long their response is when the stimulus is removed.

Q

how do you electric pulp test?

A

start at 2 and slowly increase to less than 4.
NO “on” button on machine- it will start when you begin to use it.
put a little toothpaste or conductor on the tip and this will complete the circuit.

16
Q

what do we irrigate with at the school and why?

A

sodium hypochlorite

-cannot reach all of the surfaces so we want to irrigate

17
Q

what do we use in lab as the mixing sealer?

A

eugonal base

18
Q

what is the spreader made of ?

A

NiTi - penetrates deeper than the stainless steel and especially in the curved canals.

19
Q

what are the pluggers made of?

A

you have your 5/7 and 9/11 and these are made of stainless steel. we use the pluggers to condense the gutta purcha

20
Q

when might be an indication for ultrasonics?

A

use for pulp stones, remove separated files, etc.
