what is a direct restoration?
soft malleable material

what are indirect restorations?
fabricated outside of the mouth using impression of prepared tooth
inlays, onlays, crowns, bridges etc.

caries

aims of restorations?
restore integrity of tooth surface

removed diseased tissue
restore appearance
what is dental caries?
loss of tooth substance by bacterial action - acid productions caused by dietary factors
what should be the approach re. stained fissure?
if high risk, medium risk or special needs
tooth within two years of eruption
fissure seal
what should the approach be re. stained and decalcified fissure?
if low risk and reg. attender- sealant restoration (if rad evidence of dentinal involvement)
if not rad evidence of dentinal involvement- monitor
if not reg attender and high risk- restore
if cavitated- restore
when to treat re. proximal caries?
enamel only- monitor
reached ADJ- restore if high risk, monitor if low
when to restore re. dentinal caries?
outer 1/3 only if high risk
middle 1/3 always restore
