Operations Flashcards
3 types of production and explain them
1.Job- single item job specific high quality
2.Batch- group of items like different size or colour team shirts
3.Flow- One production line, consistent, quicker more production
Batch vs Job production
Batch:
1. EOS - bulk buying, equipment less over more products
2. Increase producitity
3. Consistent
Flow:
1. Higher quality
2. Less risk- fault in production
Batch vs Flow production
Batch:
1. Less risk-> product defect only affects a batch not all products
2. More flexible -> easier to adjust to demand-> seasons
3. Less capital = lower products
Flow:
1. More productive less wasted time-> dont have to adjust production as its all the same
2. Better EOS
What is rationalising
Focusing on the most profitable areas of a business and lowering or stopping production in othe areas
What is increasing the use of assets
Leasing part of your capitalisation to another business if you are underutilising it, renting a level on your building to another business if you dont use it
What is subcontracting
When you are ta full capacity so you go to another business to falicitate production of your good
Lean production?
Remove all waste in production to improve productivity and decrease costs
Just in time (JIT) production
Lean production when getting materials only when it is needed. No stock holding costs but more risky- cant match demand.
Kaizen?
Continues improvment, making small positive changes to improve productivity.
Cell production?
Split workforce on different tasks. E.G. one group makes car doors another cell makes car windows. Use job rotataion and specilisation
What is Total Quality Managment (TQM)?
Continuos quality checks throughout production to make defects of products 0
