Operant Conditioning Flashcards
YEyE
Definition and Explanation of OP conditioning
Def : a method of learning that uses rewards and punishment to modify behaviour.
explain:
By rewarding behaviour its more likely to be repeated, and by punishing behaviour its less likely to be avoided.
What was skinners persepctive on lang development
Argued that children learn language through operant conditioning, children would imitate speech they hear and correct speech is rewarded.
Criticisms of Skinners theory ( particularly from Chomsky)
Chomsky tuned that children do not only learn lang through imitation and reinforcement. Children say shit that DNE, so how tf can they be imitating something that DNE??? DIFF.
They also say incorrect things and have not been rewarded foruse of incorrect gramma.
therefore, lang must be an inborn bio program.
Chomsky’s argument was that lang is a product of the minds construction on imitation.
