Broca’s aphasia:

Definition and symptoms:

A

This is a problem with Syntax, ( structure of sentences)

Symptoms:

Linked to problem with speech productions - slow, ungrammatical speech, jumbled sentences.

Mostly don’t have trouble understanding sentences.

Cannot process sentences with unclear syntax or sentences with more than one meaning. (meaning based word order flops)

Wernicke’s aphasia

Definition and symptoms:

A

Problem with semantics( understanding meaning of lang)

Produced speech that was fluent and gramma nxa but tended to be incoherent ( no syntax flop)

Produce meaningless speech, also unable to understand speech and writing.
