Purpose of open space
To maintain adequate lighting and ventilation for domestic buildings with in class A, B or C
Regulation 25: Open space criteria. Where should an open space be located in a domestic building of class A,B or C?
At the rear, or partly at the site and partly at the rear. At a level not less than 150 mm below the floor of the lowermost storey ( for domestic use).
No part of the building which bounds with the open space at any level, should be within 1.5 m horizontally from the boundary of the open space
Amount of open space required in domestic buildings
Class A: not less than 1/2 of the roofed-over area of the building
Class B: not less than 1/3 of the roofed-over area of the building
Class C: not less than 1/4 of the roofed-over area of the building
