What is an early-entry command post
a lead element of a HQs designed to controls ops until the remaining portions of the HQ are deployed and operational
- not part of TOE
- assist in controlling ops during deployment phase
- temporarily performing fxs of main and tactical CPs
- deputy CO, COS (XO), or ops officer normally leads
what is a command post
a unit HQs where the CO and staff perform their activities. The HQs design, combined with robust communications, gives COs a flexible mission command structure consisting of MAIN CP, TACTICAL CP, and CMD GROUP FOR BRIGADES, DIVISIONS, or CORPS
Common CP Activities/functions
- maintaining running estimates
- controlling/assessing ops
- developing/disseminating orders
- coordinating with higher, lower, and adjacent units
- conducting knowledge management and information management
- conducting network ops
- providing a facility for the CO to control ops, issue orders, and conduct rehearsals
- Maintaining the common operational picture
- performing CP administration (ie. sleep plans, security, and feeding schedules)
- supporting the CO’s decision making process

Main Command Post

- controlling and synchronizing current ops
- monitoring and assessing current ops for their impact on future ops
- planning ops, including branches and sequels
- assessing the overall progress of ops
- preparing reports required by HHQ and receiving reports for subordinate units

Coordinating staff is composed of:
