10
Q

Purpose of mission analysis

A
  • better understand the situation and problem
  • identify what the command must accomplish
  • determine where and when it must be done, why the operation must be executed

since no amount of subsequent planning can solve an insufficiently understood problem, mission analysis is the most important step in the MDMP

Q

Describe the PROCESS of Mission Analysis (how you get from inputs to outputs)

A
  • analyze HHQ plan or order
  • perform initial IPB
  • determine the specified, implied, essential tasks
  • review available assets
  • determine constraints
  • identify critical facts and develop assumptions
  • begin risk management
  • develop initial CCIRs and EEFIs
  • develop initial information collection plan
  • update plan for use of available time
  • develop initial themes and messages
  • develop proposed problem and mission statements
  • present the mission analysis briefing
  • develop and issue initial cdr’s intent, planning guidance
  • develop COA evaluation criteria
  • issue a WARNORD

25
Q

3 types of tasks

A
  • implied
  • specified
  • essential
26
Q

What are essential tasks

A

Tasks that must be executed to accomplish the mission.

  • always included in the unit mission statement
  • can be specified or implied
27
Q

BPT =

A

“Be-prepared mission”

-a type of mission that might be executed; a continengency

28
Q

O/O =

A

“On-order mission”

  • mission to be executed at an unspecified time
  • CO’s envision task execution in concept of the operations
  • has a trigger
29
Q

considerations when taking account of available assets and resource shortfalls in mission analysis

A
  • have there been additions or deletions from the current task org?
  • status of command and support relationships
  • status of all units: Joint Organizations, Civilian Organizations, Multinational Ops, Special Ops
30
Q

Definition of constraint

A

a restriction placed on the command by a higher command.

-dictates action or inaction, thus restricting freedom of action
