Onboarding Flashcards
Splash Screen vs Introduction Screen
splash screen, which contains the app’s logo and mission statement. The following screen is usually the introduction screen.
Landing page
Netflix
Before you can even get to this login screen, you have to go through their landing page, which tells you all about their service.
Swipe/Click-Through Tutorial
swipe-through or click-through tutorial, like the ones you saw above for the Spotify and Slack apps. This is a very popular style of onboarding as it’s relatively easy to build and allows your user to become somewhat familiar with your app before they even see it. The desktop version of this usually involves clicking a right-pointing arrow that indicates “next,” while the mobile version usually involves a swipe.
Coach Marks
coach marks as they resemble the marks a sports coach makes in their playbook. They usually consist of an explanatory message with an arrow that points to a specific area of the interface. See the example below from Gogobot.
Progressive onboarding
Progressive onboarding is when you guide the user as they use a function of your app.
The beauty of this type of onboarding is that it doesn’t feel like extra information or extra work as the user is actually using the app to perform a task while doing it.
