OMM Techniques Flashcards
Myofascial Techniques
D: MFR, INR, ST
I: MFR, INR, CS
Arthrodial Techniques
D: MET, ART, HVLA
I: BLT, FPR
Combined: Still’s
Soft Tissue
Direct
Passive activating force (wait)
Longitudinal/horizontal stretching, inhibitory pressure, kneading
Myofascial Release
Direct or Indirect
Hold tissue in stacked barrier until tissue creep is felt
Activating force: wait (passive); deep breaths (active)
Integrated Neuromuscular Release
Direct or indirect MFR + active activation of underlying musculature to enhance release
Counterstrain
Indirect
Passive activating force (waiting)
- Find tenderpoint
- Establish 10/10 tenderness scale
- Monitor tenderpoint throughout
- Place pt in position of ease (3/10)
- Hold 90 seconds
- Slow return to neutral
- Reassess tenderness
Muscle Energy
Direct
Articulatory
Direct
Passive activating force
Stack and localize to direct barrier, LVLA (gentle repetitive thrusts through restrictive barrier)
HVLA
Direct
Passive activating force
Single quick thrust through restrictive barrier
Balanced Ligamentous Tension
Indirect
Passive activating force (waiting with held inhalation or exhalation)
Stack joint to indirect barrier, test in inhalation (flattens spine) and exhalation (curves spine), have pt hold until air hunger
breathe last
Facilitated Positional Release
Indirect
Passive activating force (waiting)
- Flatten spinal curve (Inhalation)
- Compress joint
- Stack joint into indirect barrier
- Wait
breathe first
Still’s Technique
Combined (indirect barrier to direct barrier)
Passive activating force (move pt into restrictive barrier)
- Stack joint into shifted neutral (indirect barrier)
- Compress joint
- Maintain compression and move through restrictive barrier
- Return to neutral
