OM1 SOPs Flashcards

1
Q

When is a takeoff alternate required?

A

A takeoff alternate airport is required whenever:
*The weather conditions at the departure airport are below the lowest appropriate published landing minima within 30 minutes of ETD or
*Other operational conditions exist that would preclude a return to the departure airport

Q

Requirements for a takeoff alternate?

A

Takeoff alternate must be a Main, Alternate or Adequate airport.
For EDTO flights:
*Attempt to select an airport within 60 minutes at OEI cruise speed, if not then within the approved EDTO time (120min A320C) for NZ, cook isl & Japan departures the T/O alternate must be within the 60 min OEI cruise speed distance (427nm A320c).
For non EDTO:
*Within the published OEI cruise speed distance equating to 60 mins (427nm A320c).

*OEI limitations must be taken into account for both departure and T/O alternate (eg CATIIIB+ not available when OEI, 0.15 minima or higher for AR appch)
*Pre dispatch the forecast WX during the window of suitability for the T/O alternate must be above minima for the expected appch (window of suitability is 30 minutes before earliest ETA at T/O alt to 30 minutes after latest possible ETA).
*INTER/TEMPO PRO30 & PROB40 are to be disregarded when selecting a T/O alternate.

Q

Route Distance Limitations (non-EDTO) - what is the distance for each aircraft equating to 60 minutes flight time at OEI cruise speed in still air?

A

A320C = 427nm
A320N = 403nm
A321C = 405nm
A321LR = 396nm
(All MCT, Vmo/Mmo)

Q

Requirements for needing an alternate?

A

An airport requires an alternate (and cannot itself be an alternate) if during the period from 30 mins before/after ETA any of the following are forecast in comparison to alternate wx criteria in CMQRC:
*More than SCT cloud below alt wx criteria (cloud amounts are cumulative)
*Vertical vis below alt wx criteria for cloud (VV is equivalent to OVC layer at reported height)
*Vis less than alt wx criteria
*Vis forecast below alt criteria including fog/mist ect
*X/wind or other wind higher than limits
*TS and/or sevear turbulence
*Enough rain to cause the runway to be contaminated and/or make landing calcs make runway too short

If the above is INTER or TEMPO and the required holding fuel is carried there are extra notes

Q

What drainage does all Jetstar approved airports in AUS and NZ have?

A

All can be assumed equivalent to a grooved or PFC overlaid runway (in terms of contamination assessment).

Q

When conditions at destination are forecast below minima temporarily via a TEMPO or INTER what is the requirement to avoid needing an alternate?

A

Enough fuel must be carried to allow the AC to hold for:
TEMPO - 60 minutes
INTER - 30 minutes

Where multiple of these are forecast, the holding fuel is not cumulative and fuel for only the most limiting must be carried.

Q

When BECMG, GRADU or FROM are forecast how long are the buffers and when do assume the wx to change/apply?

A

*30 minute buffer
Assume to apply from:
*The start of the period when worsening.
*The end of the period when improving

Q

When do the 30 minute buffers not apply?

A

When the flight will be completed within the time of:
*Validity of a trend forecast appended to a METAR or SPECI for ops outside AUS
*The first 3 hours of a TAF3 forecast within AUS
(i.e. if adverse conditions before, after or contained wholly within the trend forecast or first 3 hours of a TAF3 do not conflict with the ETA within that period then the buffers do not apply.

Q

What is a trend?

A

A trend forecast shall consist of a concise statement of expected significant changes in the meteorological conditions at that aerodrome appended to a METAR or SPECI for operations outside Australia. Such a trend will normally consider weather conditions Over a 2 hour period after the weather observation.

Q

International operations, alternate requirement for international flights to an airport out of Australia?

A

An alternate for the destination is required (pre-dispatch and in flight) for all international flights to an airport outside of Australia, unless the destination has separate (not opposite ends of same runway) usable runways, with at least one having an instrument appch.

Additionally for international operations to NZ and Cook Island destinations:
*Pre-Dispatch, all international flghts inbound to New Zealand or the Cook Islands require the provision of an alternate.
*Post-Dispatch, standard in-flight policy applies.

(This is for the planned destination only, no requirement for a nominated alternate)
