Olinger Pulmonology Flashcards
what special grooves does the left lung have?
aortic arch
Desc. aorta
where can lung cancer derive from?
what are the 3 treatments?
actual lung tissue or from bronchi
lung removal (pneumonectomy)
lobectomy
segmentectomy
what is pleuritis (pleurisy)
inflammation of the pleura producing roughness on the lungs, breathing difficult
when does pulmonary collapse occur?
when air enters the pleural cavity to break the surface tensions bw the 2 layers
what is a pneumothorax?
collapsed lung due to entry of air into plueral cavity
what is a hydrothorax?
excess fluid in pleural cavity due to pleural effusion
what is hemothorax
blood in pleural cavity, usually due to chest wound via intercostal vessel or internal thoracic vessel laceration
what is the primary, secondary, and tertiary bronchus called?
Main bronchus
lobar
segmental bronchi
flow of air through bronchioles?
segmental –> conducting –> terminal –> respiratory –> alveolar duct
what is the primary site of gas exchange of the lung
alveolar duct
what is bronchial asthma?
narrowing of airways produced by contraction of smooth m.
edema of the mucosa in the lumen of bronchi/oles
what do you visualize in a bronchoscopy?
main bronchi
what does a bronchus have that bronchioles DO NOT?
cartilage in the walls
what are the 3 main lines of reflexion?
sternal
vertebral
costal
what special grooves does the right lung have?
azygos v.
esophagus
SVC, IVC
