Olfactory & optic nerve Flashcards
1
Q
type of neurons in the olfactory nerve, and where?
A
- primary bipolar sensory neurons
- olfactory mucousa
2
Q
where do it’s axons pass
A
axon bundle passes from
- nasal cavity through
- cribriform plate in to
- anterior cranial fossa to
- synapse in the olfactory bulb
- this was from the 1st order neurons
3
Q
where do 2nd order neurons start
A
from olfactory tract to medial & lateral olfactory stria
ending in cerebral cortex of prepiriform area, amygdala, etc
4
Q
where does the optic tract terminate
A
in the lateral geniculate body (visual pathway)
*** remember that the medial geniculate body is for the auditory pathway!!
5
Q
pathway of the optic nerve
A
- optic nerve extends through the optic canal
- from optic canal to the orbit exiting the posterior side of the eyeball
