OLFACTION Flashcards
1
Q
Olfaction
A
Olfaction is a chemical sense that begins with a response to airborne molecures by the olfactory receptors in the nasal cavity.
Receptors send signals through the olfactory nerve to the olfactory bulb, which acts as the relay station for all olfactory information (just as they thalamus does for all other sensory information!).
Olfactory bulb forwards signals to the brain= primary olfactory cortex, orbitofrontal cortex and amygdala.
**Primary Olfactory Cortex **= processes and integrates olfactory signals
Orbitofrontal cortex = conscious perception of odors
Amygdala = olfactory memory.
