What are the risk factors of oesophagitis?
A
- Eating just before bed
- Alcohol, caffeine, chocolate, smoking
- Greasy or spicy food
- Obesity
- Hiatus hernia

What are the symptoms of oesophagitis?
A
- Epigastric abdominal pain
- Heartburn
- Acidic / sour taste
- Dysphagia
- Odynophagia
- Hoarseness
- Persistent cough

What are the signs of oesophagitis?
A
- Epigastric abdominal tenderness to palpation
- Exam might be normal

How to you diagnose oesophagitis?
A
- Oesphagogastric duodenoscopy
- Reveals inflamed tissue and mucosal erosions
- Do biopsies to check for increased eosinophils or cellular changes

How do you treat oesophagitis?
A
- Discontinue offending medication, change diet, lifestyle etc.
- PPI or H2 blockers (omeprazole / ranitidine)
- Topical steroids
- Fluticasone MDI without spacer
