What is IBS?
A
Is a chronic, relapsing and often lifelong disorder
Affects the lower gastrointestinal (GI) tract
Has no discernable structural or biochemical cause and is, therefore, considered ‘functional’

Symptoms and signs of IBS?
A
- Non-specific abdominal pain (relieved by defecation)
- Bloating
- Altered stool frequency and appearance
- Symptoms worsened by eating
- Sometimes passage of mucus
