Odontogenic Tumour Flashcards
What is ameloblast?
Cell which produce enamel
Give differential of defined radiolucent lesion angle of mandible?
Ameloblastoma
Odontogenic keratocyst
Dentigerous cyst - if associated w/ tooth
What histology expect see ameloblastoma?
Can be follicular or plexiform
Can be mixed
How does folicular ameloblastoma present
Islands of odontogenic epithelium in fibrous stroma
Islands have columnar ameloblast-like cells at periphery
Stellate-like reticulum in centre of islands
Cysts in stellate-reticular space
How does plexiform ameloblastoma present?
Cords of columnar ameloblast like cells in fibrous stroma
Cysts formwithinstroma
What is ameloblastoma?
Benign odontogenic neoplasm
How does ameloblastoma behave?
Benign but destructive
Can displace tissue and resrob bone
Most common site ameloblastoma?
Angle of mandible
Source of proliferation for ameloblastoma?
Dental lamina
What else arise from dental laimia?
Odontogenic keratocyst
What gives rise to dentigerous cyst?
Reduced enamel epithelium
Management ameloblastoma?
Excision, may require reconstruction
What is odontoma?
Harmatoma - comprised normal tissue growing irregular way
Types of odontome?
Complex
Compound
How does complex odontome present radiographically?
Irregular radioapque mass within follicular space unerupted tooth
