Q

What Happens at a Destructive Plate Margin? (Volcano)

A

An oceanic plate meets a continental plate in which they are moving towards each other. The denser oceanic plate is subducted beneath the less dense continental plate. As it sinks, it melts and makes magma called andesite.

Q

What Happens at a Destructive Plate Margin? (Earthquake)

Q

What Happens at a Constructive Plate Margin? (Volcano)

A

Where two oceanic plates are moving apart from each other. New oceanic crust is forming constantly in the gap created. The magma is injected between the two plates, as it cools it forms new oceanic crust. The magma is runny and so shallow sided volcanoes are formed.

Q

What Happens at a Conservative Plate Boundary?

A

As plates slide past each other, friction between them causes earthquakes. The plates can be moving in the same or different direction.

Q

What Happens at a Collision Plate Boundary?

A

When two continental plates are moving towards each other, the plates are not dense enough to sink into the mantle. The plates buckle and form mountains. There are powerful earthquakes but no volcanoes.
