OC Flashcards
Goals of Complete Denture Occlusion
1- minimize the truma to the supporting structer
2-preserve the remainig structer
3-enhance the stability
4- fciliate the asthetic and speech
5- restore the masticatory force to a reasonable level
Types of posterior artificial teeth
Anatomic ( 30 degree or more)
Semi anatomic ( 10-20)
Lingual
Non anatomic
Anatomic and semi anatomic diff in?
Degree of the cuspal inclinaiton
Five Factors Affecting Occlusal Balance
1- condyelar inclination
2- incisal guidance
3-cuspal inclination
4- occlual plane
5- compencating curve
Hanau’s Quint
• Inter-relationship of these five factors may be
described by Theilman’s Formula
• In order to maintain a balanced occlusion:
CI x IG / CIxCCxOP
Hannau formula can be simplfide through
CI+IG/2 if its more than the cuspal inclination then it means theres a posterior inclinition
If less then theres an interference
Candylar guidance
Is not modifade by the doctor - when it is steep we have to decrase the IG and when it is shallow e hae to incrase it- increase the CG angel will increase the jaw sapparation
Incisal guidance
Is the result from the horizntal and vertical overlap
The neutral IG is the mx-md relationship when the md moves forward (protrotion)
The denture one is arbitary or not based on anything only what the doc see more asthetic
Occlusal Plane inclination
(curve of occlusion)
Imaginary line touching the incisal edge of the mx anti and the cusps of posterior teeth
Compensating curves
Antio posterior
Medial- lateral
Posterior Occlusal schemes
1- anatomic or semi anatomic bilateral balanced occlusal
2-monoplane 0 degree teeth with compensating curve balanced
3- lingual non balanced
4- monoplane non balanced
Stable simounatious contact of the opposing teeth with smooth bilateral glinding movmnt but within the normal level
Anatomic and semi anatomic Bilateral balanced
INdication of balanced occlusion
1- good reisdual height or class l residual height
2- moderate to steep incisal guidance
3- normal bucco-lingual width of the ridge
4- asthetic
Advantages of balanced occlusion
1- reduces the lateral forces during functional and parafunctional movmt
2- improve the lateral stability
3- improve the mastication
Bilateral balanced occlusal
1-Anatomic or semi anatomic denture teeth are used.
2. Arranged teeth to a compensating curves.
3. Occlusal plane should be parallel to upper and lower
member of the articulator
4. The steepness of these curves is affected by incisal
guidance and condylar inclination.
5. We must evaluate the repeatability of centric relation
before selecting occlusal scheme .
6. Need a semi adjustable articulator with maxillary cast
positioned using face bow , protrusive and lateral
records.
7. It is difficult to achieve because the multiple of inclined
planes to be adjusted
