Labour that progresses very rapidly and birth comes <3 hours of regular contractions starting
What complications can precipitous labour cause?
Perineal tears
What are four strategies strategies for managing fast labour?
1) using gravity to help slow the baby’s decent
2) gently applying pressure on the baby’s head as it crowns to reduce the risk of tearing
3) perineum support to prevent excess tearing
4) ask mom to pant instead of pushing
What are Braxton hicks contractions (false labour)
- irregular, non-painful contractions that do not lead to cervicle dialation
How early can Braxton hicks contractions start?
As early as 20 weeks
