Junctional Rhythms Flashcards
what is a junctional complex?
a p wave before, during, or after a QRS complex
if the p wave is inverted what does this indicate?
retrograde conduction from the AV junction or accesory pathway
what is the difference between a PAC and a PJC?
a PAC has a upright p wave preceding a QRSand a PJC has an inverted or hidden P wave before or after the QRS
whats the treatment for PJC
no treatment is usually required
what are the characteristics of a juntional rhythm aka junctional escape rhythm
rate: 40 -60
rhythm : regular
ECG : inverted p waves before, during, or after QRS
what is the rate of an accelerated junctional rhythm
60 - 100
what is the rate of non-paroxysmal junctional tachycardia
100 - 120
what is the rate of paroxysmal junctional tachycardia
100 - 180
what does non paroxysmal mean?
it means gradual onset with the heart rate increasing slowly
what does paroxysmal mean?
sudden onset and termination
if a pt is symptomatic with fast junctional rhythms what could be done to treat them?
- IV access
- vagal maneuvers
- adenosine
- beta blockers or calcium channel blockers
