increase in hepatic metabolism and increase in renal excretion
What is magnesium sulfate classified as?
electrolyte
When is magnesium sulfate used in pregnancy?
severe hypertension lasting more than 15 minutes with preeclampsia or seizure in 20 weeks of greater of gestation
What are the side effects of magnesium sulfate?
drowsiness, respiratory depression, hypotension, bradycardia with rapid administration
What is calcium chloride classified as?
electrolyte
What is calcium chloride an antidote for?
magnesium sulfate overdose
What are the adverse effects of calcium chloride?
nausea, vomiting, syncope, bradycardia, dysrhythmias
How is calcium chloride administered?
slow IV push

benzodiapine
When is diazepam/valium indicated in pregnant women?
Eclampsia when the pt’s seizure do not respond to magnesium sulfate
What are the adverse of valium/diazepam?
nausea, vomiting, respiratory depress and hypotension

How is diphenhydramine used in pregnancy?
sedative and antiemetic (nausea/vomiting),treats hyperemesis gravidarum
