Observation Learning Flashcards
What is observational learning?
Observing the actions of a model and the consequences of these actions to guide future actions.
What is vicarious conditioning?
watching someone else be reinforced or punished for their behaviour.
What are the two consequences?
Vicarious punishment, ( punished for actions )
Vicarious reinforcement, ( rewarded for actions )
5 stages of observational learning?
‘ARRMR’
- Attention: needing to focus on the information to retain the information, more likely to pay attention if the model is positively reinforced, has similar characteristics, known or familiar.
- Retention: behaviour needs to be stored as a memory to use at a later date. eg. mental representation before performing the behaviour.
- Reproduction: Must have the physical and mental ability to convert memory to action and perform behaviour.
- Motivation: must be motivated to imitated and perform behaviour, otherwise will become latent.
- Reinforcement: Positive results for performing behaviour will make repetition of behaviour a lot more likely.
