Classical Conditioning Flashcards
What is classical conditioning?
An unconscious type of learning that happens when exposed to a stimulus multiple times.
What is a Neutral Stimulus?
A stimulus that produces no naturally occurring response
What is an unconditioned stimulus?
A stimulus that can produce a naturally occuring response
What is an unconditioned response?
An unlearned, innate ( natural ) response to an unconditioned stimulus.
What is a conditioned stimulus?
A stimulus that produces a learned response
What is a conditioned response?
A response that is produced that has been learnt as a response to a stimulus.
What are the phases of Classical Conditoning?
Before Conditioning
During Conditioning/Acquisition
After Conditioning
What happens in ‘Before Conditioning’?
The neutral stimulus which gives no relevant response and the unconditioned stimulus and the unconditioned response happen.
What happens in ‘During Conditioning’?
The NS is immediately followed by the UCS multiple times which will then let the learner associate. then UCR will occur
What happens in ‘After Conditioning’?
The previously neutral stimulus will become the conditioned stimulus and the previously unconditioned response will now become the conditioned response.
What is Extinction?
When the CS no longer produces the CR because the CS is repeatedly presented without the UCS.
What is stimulus Generalisation?
To produce a same response to a similar stimulus however different.
What is stimulus Discrimination?
Recognising different stimuli and performing different responses even though they are similar.
What is spontaneous recovery?
The reappearance of the CR to the CS after a period of extinction.
Why is classical conditioning passive?
because the learner does not choose to learn the behaviour. It is involuntary because the UCR is a naturally occurring response.
